Are You Really Happy? Or Really Comfortable?
I was doing some thinking the other day and I can't seem to stop thinking about this specific word.
Contentment.
By definition, contentment means being in a state of happiness and satisfaction. However, I can't help but to question that definition. Does being content really mean you're happy? Or does it mean you're comfortable? Now, some will argue that being happy and comfortable are one in the same. But I want to address this in a specific way. In regards to our lives, a lot of us would say we're "content" with where we are in life. No, everything is not perfect but things could be worse, so you're content! Right? I agree, things could be worse. But I will also argue that things could be better as well and I'm not sure if contentment encourages "better"!
We become so immune to doing the same things just on different days that we confuse being happy with just being comfortable with our lives. Just because you don't hate your life doesn't mean that you love your life! And shouldn't we all be madly in love with our life? I don't know about you but I know that I want to be madly in love with every moment of mine! When we become comfortable with our lives, we don't desire growth or change. Being comfortable on a couch is heaven on a rainy day! Being comfortable around a friend is needed in order to truly be yourself! But being comfortable with your life... that's different.
When you're content with your life, you don't see any reason to change anything because you like things the way that they are. While that mentality is better than hating everything about your life, it's important to remember something. We should never stop learning because life never stops teaching! If we are content with how things are that means our routines and thought processes are the same day in and day out! What is that lifestyle teaching us? In what ways can you grow from repeating the same thing with the same people every day? There are none. And we miss out on life's greatest lessons when we run from change.
Whether it's your job, your relationship or even the city that you live in, don't let your life pass you by without making the personal decision to live in happiness instead of contentment. Being comfortable is safe, and stepping out of your comfort zone to pursue true happiness is a risk; we all know that, but we shouldn't live in fear of that! Happiness is something that everyone should feel in their lifetime, especially you. You know exactly what it is that would make you the happiest you've ever been! You've been wanting it for a while, but you've also been running from it for just as long! Please stop running from it & run towards it! You deserve to know what happiness genuinely feels like.
Being comfy is great for a movie night, not a lifestyle! Change it up! Live it up!
